EFFORTLESSLY BOOSTING YOUR BUSINESS WITH PUBLIC SPEAKING

The psychology of public speaking is one not a majority of people actually understand- how beneficial the mere skill of being able to communicate can be to anyone’s personal let alone their professional life is something that is rarely explored. The term “public speaking” is often linked to just talking, well of course it is in the name, however a lot more is involved in it all.

Let’s start by breaking public speaking down, what is it? A dictionary will tell you that public speaking is a presentation that one makes in front of an audience which to some extent is true but what that definition lacks is the pillars of public speaking, the building blocks. Communication is an important part of our day to day lives, in order for us to get anything done we must communicate and public speaking is a form of communication.
Here is a scenario: you are at the office and a new employee has just been hired, you are tasked with explaining the company’s core business, values and day to day activities to them in front of everyone else- nerve-wrecking right? It doesn’t have to be. The common misconception is that there needs to be a stage and a microphone for a presentation to be considered “public speaking” but any speech and or interaction is simply a “soft” version of public speaking and presentation skills.


So now the question on your mind is probably how do I boost my business by talking or communicating? Think about it, the only way anyone will know what you’re selling or what service you offer is if you talk about it, obviously not only literally but even through social media.
Clients are more inclined to come to a business that connects with them, creates a rapport and engages with them- that’s where public speaking comes in. Be it in a situation where you are simply hosting a short online seminar to boost your brand, addressing colleagues or you are talking to potential investors, the art of communication is something that you definitely need.


Imagine someone coming to you trying to sell bottled water and when you ask them what makes their water different from mainstream water they stutter, is it because they don’t know their brand? I doubt it. Its more to do with not knowing how to say it. It is virtually impossible for one to anticipate every single question a client will ask, public speaking covers impromptu speeches; how to address a situation, question or statement you did not expect. A system that fluently responds to queries and enquires easily makes sales as the client feels valued.
A business run by someone who possesses public speaking fluency easily gains traction amongst stakeholders and competitors as their products and services are well known and well-articulated. “Maze businesses” (businesses that are hard to understand) usually lack an orator or do not have a seasoned orator to bridge that gap and therefore hinder their own success.


Now the simple question I pose to you is, "Are you hindering your own business' success by lacking the skill to communicate Effectively?"
